Since 2003 Vesna has appeared with solo performances as a singer and accordionist. Her repertoire contains her own songs as well as various traditional songs, first of all Croatian, Bosnian, Czech, Mexican, among others. Beautiful sentimental melodies are combined with playful rhythms, voice experiments and instrumental virtuosity. Most self-composed songs are in Czech, with texts inspired by ordinary life and surrealist visions.
Since the beginning of her solo career Vesna has performed in many cities and towns all over the Czech Republic, and the diversity of her audience is really fascinating. Children, youngsters, adults and grey-haired old people in the end of the concerts often sing along a Czech or Moravian song accompanied by Vesna’s accordion.
Solo concerts followed and naturally deepened the experience of work on theatre projects, where many songs were suitable to be performed at concerts. So, poetry theatre play “Uninterrupted song – Ten centuries of French poetry” was main inspiration for the solo CD “Everything is mysterious in love”. In this albim Vesna used the accordion as the main accompanying instrument, to which she just added light percusions. This partly melancholic and partly joyful CD may convey the mood of French chançon or remind Yann Tiersens minimalistic tunes from “Amélie de Montmartre”.
